This has been a long time coming. We have wanted to try this restaurant for a while now and we finally made it! Miss Likklemore's is located at the corner of Queen and Spadina, downtown Toronto. It was a rainy night so thankfully we found parking right across the street.

We had a late reservation so we opted for appetizers and drinks instead of entrees. The menu is family-style so the portions are large and meant for sharing.

Strike a Pose!

Atmosphere

I absolutely loved the vibe of this restaurant. It's a nice trendy spot with beautiful artwork on the walls. They have a live dj playing music and he really set the mood. I couldn't help dancing in my seat. In fact, I was tempted to get up and dance on the dance floor! That said, the music was not overpowering; you could still have a conversation without yelling. The music genre was 90s/2000s hip hop and R&B, as well as reggae and some groovy soca. The kitchen closed at 11:00 p.m., so after that time, we ordered drinks and just enjoyed the music. I definitely want to go back and check out their patio this summer.

In the wall beside our table there was a hole perfectly cut (check out the picture) and I have so many questions: What is it? Why is it there? What was in there before? Why not fill it? This was a great conversation piece, whether intentional or not. It looked like a square box with a 2 handles. We should have asked somebody who worked there although I'm not sure that they would have known. This restaurant appears to be in a heritage building so I'm sure there is an interesting story behind it. Inquiring minds want to know!

Miss Likkemores....I finally got to try this place out with my girls. We decided to go on a Friday night to catch some vibes with a DJ in the background along with some food and drinks.

Angie

The atmosphere was very relaxing. The décor was simple yet sophisticated with amazing art on the walls. The dim lights gave a calming feel. Although on this night, DJ Flash Gordon was spinning great music, which turned it into more of a lounge vibe, so it was actually loud and poppin!

Drinks

Tanisha

This restaurant has the largest selection of rum that I have ever seen! They have rum from the different Caribbean islands and all around the world. There are literally pages and pages of rum in the drinks menu, separated by region. So for all you rum lovers, definitely check this out! I was amazed by the vast selection.

Despite the impressive rum menu, I opted for a cocktail and ordered a rum punch, the Likkle Punch. It was good but I would have liked it a bit stronger. This is a nice alternative for those who want to try rum punch but aren't into the strong rums.

I switched to wine for my second drink. I had a pinot grigio that was divine! The wine is pricey ($26 for a 9oz) but soooooo good! I enjoyed it so much that I followed up my 9oz with a 5oz glass....it was just that good! I wish I took note of the name of the wine and what region it came from...this just means I'll have to go back to this restaurant 😉.

Now onto the drinks.... First of all, this place has an extensive list of rums from all over the world. If you are a rum drinker like me, then this would be right up your alley. I swear I spent over 10 minutes just trying to pick one lol. The first drink I tried was the Broughtupsy. The drink just spoke to me lol. It wasn't too sweet or light but just right.

Next I decided to switch it up and try the Brugal Anejo, a rum from the Dominican Republic. I had it neat. I like strong drinks, but this was way too strong for me. I ended up adding a little bit of water to dilute it.

Angie

I tried the Rum Cocktail. It was a yummy red concoction with spice on the surface, topped with a pineapple. It went down nice and smooth, and you could definitely taste the alcohol.

Menu

Tanisha

My first appetizer, I ordered doubles. They were very good! It was more like a taco though. It had one bara instead of 2. It had some spice but wasn't too hot. Not the best doubles I've ever had but also not the worst. Doubles is traditionally "street food" so this is a great high-end option. I would order this again. It came with 2 doubles but you could add a third for an additional price.

For my second appetizer, I had the Likkle Patties.OH. EM. GEE. It was fantastic! One order includes 3 patties. The filling is a mixture of oxtail and beef and it was very tasty. The hot sauce has kick - for all the pepper lovers! I absolutely recommend this! The oxtail flavor was so nice and it really came through in the patties. Although the menu says there is beef in the patties, I couldn't tell: it was all oxtail and well worth it!!

The first appetizer I had was the doubles and for people that don't know what's in it, it has masala chickpeas, tamarind glaze, kuchela, cucumber pickle. To me, it reminded me of a taco as most doubles have two baras, but don't get me wrong, it was still good.

As for my second dish, I had the likkle patties and woooiiii, these likkle patties were sooo good. The braised beef and oxtail inside them was such a good mix.

I wanted to order the carrot cake for dessert, but they don't sell it by the slice. I was tempted to ask the table behind me if I could buy a slice...it looked that good!

Angie

I had the Doubles, served with masala chickpeas and a tamarind glaze, kuchela and pickled cucumber. The flavors were good and the pickle gave it an extra crunch.

The masala had a spicy kick, although not too much for me to handle. This dish was very tasty and filling. The presentation was cool because the doubles reminded me of tacos.

I also tried the Salt Cod Fritters, served with a red scallion mignonette and charred corn aioli. I've had cod fish a million times before but it was my first time trying salt fish fritters. This dish was tasty, it was crispy like I like it, and went well with the charred corn aioli. The red scallion mignonette gave a great tang to each bite. This one is definitely a favorite.

Service

Tanisha

The server was knowledgeable about the menu and she was quite pleasant; however, we had to wait a long time for the server to take our order and, again, when we ordered our second round of drinks. While I understand that our server was giving us time to look through the menu, she could have come back a little sooner to at least take our drink order.

Nads

The server was friendly. She knew about the menu and was very helpful, but then it went downhill from there. The service was lacking after that and we waited a long time for drinks.

Angie

Our waitress was nice and helpful, but she forgot some of what we ordered and the service was not timely. If it wasn't for Dj Flash Gordon and the wicked music, I might have been a little bit more annoyed about it.

For our rating, we give Miss Likklemore's three snaps. The food was good, the atmosphere was really great (because of the DJ) but the service was extremely slow. We decided that we will review this restaurant again, so stay tuned!
