Miss Angie and Tanisha went to Island Queens in Hamilton, just 2 months after it opened. This restaurant is located on Kenilworth Ave. and is definitely worth the drive to Hamilton!

Atmosphere

It was quiet. We went on a Monday evening and there was only one other small group (of 2, lol) in the restaurant. The music was fire! Mostly 90s and 2000s Dancehall - we were dancing in our seats! The decor is very well done. The chairs were a gorgeous green and gold velvet and there are bamboo light shades. The cutlery at the table is also a nice gold colour. It's a casual dining restaurant with a fancy flair!

Menu

Drinks

Angie

The names of the drinks were awesome. I had the "It sweet me"

Made with Tito's vodka, watermelon lemonade, watermelon, mint, and it had some edible glitter. This drink tasted sweet and it was garnished with an edible flower, although I didn't try it.

My next drink was "Hot like fyah" This drink is small, but it packs a punch. It had a spicy kick to it every time I had a sip.

Tanisha

The drink menu names were great. I had the "Wray and Ting, Someting", which is a rum punch, and OMG it was STRONG! The server tried to warn me but I like strong drinks so I was up for the challenge. After the first sip, I thought I would be nursing that one drink whole evening, but once I got a few sips in, it went down nice. For my second drink, I had the Dandy Shandy, which is Red Stripe beer with ginger ale and hibiscus syrup. This was very mild in comparison to my first drink, but i did enjoy it.

Food

Angie

I was happy with the selection, they had a good amount of veggie options for me to choose from.

I started with the cornbread and butter then I had the veggie spring rolls. The cornbread was sweet and crunchy around the edges, it paired perfectly with the butter. The spring rolls were appetizing, served with a side of plum sauce.

For my main, I chose the Hibachi-style fried rice with pineapple, white onion, broccoli, carrots, green peas. It was so cool, it was served inside of a grilled Pineapple. This dish was tasty and the veggies gave it a crunch.

Tanisha

The cornbread was fantastic! It came piping hot with a honey butter on the side. This is on the menu to purchase but a complimentary serving is given to the table to start the meal.

As an appetizer, we had the spring rolls, which were really good too. I was so hungry and couldn't wait for it to cool down - dammmmnnn, it was hot! Buy definitely full of flavour. I really enjoyed them.

The oxtail poutine was amazing. I ordered this as my main, although its in the "appetizer" section of the menu. OMG, the portion was huge....I took half of it home and although a bit soggy, it still tasted really good the next day! The oxtail was really tender and tasty...I'll try the oxtail entree next time for sure.

Service

The waitress was very nice and helpful with the menu. She also mentioned that they will be doing whisky tasting and they have catering available .
